Temporary power on job sites: cord gauges, breakers, and trip hazards

Short-term feeds still need correct sizing, GFCI where required, and routing that keeps crews safe during busy build phases.

Temporary setups carry full liability — they are not “just until Friday.” We treat temp runs like permanent until the permanent feeders land: correct ampacity, strain relief, and protection from traffic.

Sizing and length

Voltage drop shows up as heat and nuisance trips when cords are too long for the load. We match conductor size to continuous loads on tools and lifts, and we avoid daisy-chaining cord reels past manufacturer guidance.

Walkways and weather

Cord bridges, elevation, and GFCI protection reduce both shock risk and damaged jackets. Mud and crush damage are the silent failures — walk routes with the GC before energizing.
